Which respectful scener worth his name has never heard of
Nuance, the demo group which saw the first roots on the
Amiga platform and is nowadays active on PC and even on
Nintendo DS.

Living up to their name (noo-ahns; a very slight difference
or variation in color or tone) they have provided and
entertained sceners with many diverse productions and
happen to be still around after countless years of
activity.

Many wonder how is it possible for a demo group worth its
name to kinder such activity without any long breaks.
The right answer might sound too simple; true love for the
demo scene.

Who is the heart behind Nuance? A wise man once said at
Breakpoint "Hey, it's Breakpoint! This is party time and
today no real scener can be anywhere else in the world if
not here, not even if you live in Japan!"

The man behind it all, is the German scener which is more
known as Rabe or Harry to his closest friends. For us demo
sceners, we know him as Raven of Nuance.

Raven's work spans a myriad of levels. He is not just
managing the group and making sure all holds together,
but he is also responsibly for the many fabulous graphic
work which has adorned Nuance productions for the past year
or sixteen!

Mudia Art is more than happy to have Raven as a very
welcomed guest in this issue and to have the opportunity to
display some of his greatest artwork from the not so distant
past. Indeed, his last picture has just won this year's
graphics contest at Buenzli Party.
Much deserved congratulations indeed!

When was the Raven character born?

Who is this crazy graphics man?

Going by the first name of Harald, Raven was born in the
year 1972, so one could say that he is one of those old root
demo sceners. He lives in the south of Germany, in the city
of Ulm, situated in the world map, somewhere around Stutgart
and Munich.

Raven has always been in Nuance, ever since the dawn of
scene times. Or better, he is the original founder and the
main graphician in Nuance. "I have been active in the demo
scene since 1988. I started on the C64, then switched to the
Amiga where I founded the demo group NUANCE in 1991 with
some other fellow sceners. Since that time I'm the main
organizer, last active founding member and one of the most
active graphic artists in the group. At the moment I'm
creating designs and graphical content for demos on the PC,
NintendoDS/DSlite and Xbox."

Today Raven is working as a graphics designer in the Ulm
based company innoWake, which is active in the fields of
software development and multimedia design (web design,
online games). It's always nice to see that a talented
scener could make a career out of his hobby.

In innowake Raven has the opportunity to work in various
fields such as web design, print design, GUI design and
online presentations involving different kind of media like
games and product presentations. All this has the advantage
to propose a wide range, one can be creative in.

And if all that was not enough, Raven is also very interested
in photography. A visit to his website (which he, himself
calls the RAVEN EMPIRE) should be worth a closer look.

Whenever he is not pixelling, Raven like to listen the music
of Propellerheads, David Arnold, The Prodigy and confesses
that he likes to listen quite often to demo scene music,
especially whilst driving; even though his girlfriend
really hates it!

In the good old Amiga years we in Alcatraz worked very
closely together with him on the German Charts project,
which was sadly not released due to many different reasons...
But that's another story!
